              Guion Trau Taylor


Guion Trau Taylor, formerly of Wilkinsburg, PA,  died in Houston. Texas, on October 24, 2016, after a long and very blessed life.


She was born in Sherman, Texas, on Tuesday, September 6, 1932, to the late Frank Garland and Imogene  Guion Trau. Her brother, Frank G. Trau, Jr., predeceased her. 


She graduated from Cornell University in June 1953. That fall she married Lt. Edgar Rives Taylor, Jr., U.S. Army, of Jacksonville, Fla. They moved to Wilkinsburg in 1954 where Ed continued his work with the Westinghouse Electric Corp. until his retirement.


They have two sons, Rives Trau Taylor (Lori Coonan) of Houston, Texas, and the Rev. Edgar Garland Taylor (Karen) of New Orleans, Louisiana. Three grandchildren are Charles Shipley Taylor, Gwendolyn Guion Taylor and Theodore Jenot Taylor. 


Considering herself a "professional volunteer", Guion spent many hours with different organizations. A life-time Episcopalian, she was a communicant at St. Stephen's Episcopalian Church of Wilkinsburg where she served as Vestry Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, and Treasurer of the Women of St. Stephen's .On the  Diocese level she served on two committees and was a member of the Board of the Episcopalian Church Women. Additionally, she was President of Providence III of the Church Periodical Club. 


At St. Margaret's Memorial Hospital she did volunteering in the 1950s. She was a member of St. Margaret's Woman's Auxiliary Board  for 50 years, and treasurer and president.


For St. Edmund's Academy, while her sons attended, she was PTA President, Chess Club Coordinator, "Sea Wolf" Senior Editor, "Hot Dog Lady", and trustee. 


For the Shady Side Academy she was a library volunteer and sat on the PTA board.


Guion was a 63 - year member of of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Col. William Wallace Chapter in Pittsburgh. She served three terms as Regent, Vice Regent, Recording Secretary and Treasurer. She was State Society Recording Secretary and a National Vice Chairman of two committees. She was State Vice Chairman of the committee for the "Madonna of the Trail". She also had been the Chaplain and treasurer of the NSDAR 50-members group. She received certificates awarding her for many years of outstanding, dedicated, service as  State Recording Secretary and for service to the Colonial William Wallace Chapter.


Guion also was a member of the Yohogania Chapter, National Society of Colonial Dames. She was chairman on two occasions and as treasurer of the Allegheny County Committee of NSCDA in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and served on the board until 2016.  She was brought into the NSCDA Roll of Honor in 2007, and this year the Alleghany Committee presented her a medallion in appreciation for her many hours of dedication and for the positions she had held in the Colonial Dames.


She was a Past President of the Woman's Club of Wilkinsburg.


Guion was buried with her family in the Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas.

A funeral service for Guion and her husband Ed who died on January 31, 2017, took place at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1315 Jackson Avenue in New Orleans, LA., on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

A celebration of Guion's and Ed's lives was held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church 600 Pitt Street, Wilkinsburg, PA, 15221.
